RISD engaged DSK to lead the development of a comprehensive campus master plan, for the College’s main campus in Providence, RI. RISD’s strategic plan, Critical Making | Making Critical, provides the vision underpinning the master plan. With nearly two million square feet and 60 buildings, RISD’s first objective is the efficient utilization of its existing facilities, especially its historic fabric. Connections to the urban fabric of the City of Providence include College Hill, the Providence River, and Downcity, Providence’s historic downtown.
DSK, in collaboration with RISD’s Office of Campus Planning, developed a series of campus community charrettes, inviting broad participation in the master planning process. In addition to the planning charrettes, DSK has reached out to over 500 people over the course of more than 75 community engagement meetings.
